The "4th International Symposium on Islam and Civilization," organized jointly by the Elazığ Governorship, Elazığ Municipality, and hosted by our University with the academic support of our Faculty, kicked off this year at the Atatürk Cultural Center under the subheading "Ethics."
The opening program of the symposium was attended by the Rector of our University Prof. Dr. Fahrettin GÖKTAŞ, Deputy Mayor Nazif BİLGİNOĞLU, Dean of our Faculty Prof. Dr. Veysel ÖZDEMİR, directors of public institutions and organizations, national and international scholars from universities, faculty deans, academic staff, students, and guests.
In his speech at the symposium, the Rector of our University, Prof. Dr. Fahrettin GÖKTAŞ, stated: "The Islamic civilization, established on the principles set forth in the Qur'an and the experiences demonstrated by our Prophet, is the noblest of civilizations. The fundamental goal of this civilization is for humans, its foundational element, to reach the level of perfection, ahsen-i takvim. The ethics of this civilization are the ethics of the Prophet, and the ethics of the Prophet are those of the Qur'an itself. The concept of ethics, which is the main theme of this year’s 4th symposium on Islam and Civilization, is at the heart of this civilization. I believe that the understanding which will save all of humanity from barbarism and savagery is the Islam civilization's morality-centered perspective. On this occasion, I condemn the attacks on Jerusalem, one of the ancient centers of Islamic civilization, as well as the genocide carried out in Gaza and Lebanon, and I hope that Islamic civilization will bring peace and a golden age once again to its own region and to the world. I also wish for the symposium, supported by our Faculty, and attended by valuable scholars from both domestic and international institutions, to be fruitful."
Deputy Mayor Nazif BİLGİNOĞLU, also speaking at the event, wished for the symposium to be successful and thanked the scholars who came to Elazığ from both domestic and international locations to attend the event.
After the speeches, the opening panel was held under the moderation of Prof. Dr. Veysel ÖZDEMİR, Dean of our Faculty, with the participation of Prof. Dr. Seyfullah KORKMAZ from Kırşehir Ahi Evran University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet KÜÇÜK from İnönü University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thamer HATAMLEH from the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, and Prof. Dr. Mashhour AL HABAZI from Al-Quds University.
