Department of History of Religions
About Us
The History of Religions is a field of study that examines all religions that have appeared throughout human history. It covers religions that no longer have followers as well as religions that exist today. When studying religions, topics such as the emergence and development-change processes of religions, beliefs, and principles are addressed. Common phenomena found in different religions are examined comparatively. Thus, the similarities and differences between religions and their interactions with each other are revealed.
History of Religions draws on the methods of different scientific disciplines such as history, philology, and archaeology. History of Religions presents a religion objectively in all its aspects. When studying a religion, a researcher in History of Religions aims to see it from the perspective of its believers. For this reason, they set aside their preconceptions and their own beliefs (Epoché) and approach it impartially.
