Department of Qur'anic Recitation
About Us
In the Department of Quranic Recitation, theoretical and practical knowledge necessary for reading the Quran in accordance with its rules is provided. In this context, the aim is to teach beautiful and error-free recitation by adhering to the rules of recitation such as vowelization, pause, and wasl, while observing the articulation points and characteristics of the letters. In addition to this theoretical and practical knowledge related to the phonetics of the letters of the Qur'an, the memorization of some surahs is also provided. Furthermore, in this field, the science of recitation, which deals with different readings of Qur'anic words, and the recognition of different recitations are provided. The science of recitation is at the forefront of Qur'anic sciences. This science, which deals with the pronunciation of the words of the Holy Qur'an and defines the limits of recitation differences, prevents arbitrary and incorrect recitations of the Qur'an. The conditions for an acceptable recitation are as follows: it must have a valid chain of transmission going back to the Prophet, it must conform to the Head Mushaf, and it must not contradict the rules of Arabic grammar. Recitations that do not meet one or more of these conditions are not considered valid. In this science, the corpus of recitations has been systematized with expressions such as qiraat-i seb‘a, ashara, and arbaa ashara. As a scientific discipline with its own unique principles, the science of recitation has been practiced methodically in the form of infirad and indirad tariki. The purpose of the science of Quranic Recitation is to determine the limits of the different ways of reading the words of the Qur'an within the systematics of a certain discipline, to record the various recitations within the framework of certain principles, and to protect the words of Allah, the Holy Qur'an, from distortion and alteration. Furthermore, this field serves as a source for many branches of science that have developed around the Qur'an.
