Department of Arabic Language and Rhetoric
About Us
A direct understanding of the fundamental sources of Islam, primarily the Quran and hadith, and the utilization of the vast works belonging to different scientific disciplines established in Islamic cultural and scientific history can only be achieved through knowledge of Arabic and familiarity with the scientific disciplines centered on this language. Accordingly, our faculty's Arabic Language and Rhetoric Department primarily teaches Arabic to undergraduate students in preparatory classes using modern and scientific teaching methods. Since 30% of the education and training at our faculty is in Arabic, students are required to take a one-year preparatory course in Arabic. In this context, preparatory class students are taught listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, as well as translation and grammar rules. In undergraduate classes, modern and classical Arabic texts are read and analyzed, and rhetoric topics are covered in general terms. In addition to preparatory and undergraduate education, our department also offers master's and doctoral programs. At the master's level, courses include Advanced Grammar I-II, Introduction to Rhetoric I-II, History of Arabic Grammar I-II, History of Arabic Literature I-II, Modern Arabic Texts, Linguistics, and at the doctoral level, Arabic Grammar Schools I-II, History of Arabic Rhetoric I-II, I'raab of the Qur'an I-II, and Fiqh a'l-luga.
