Department of Qur'anic Exegesis
About Us
Tafsir (Qur'anic Exegesis) means to discover and explain the meaning and purpose intended by the words after correctly understanding them. It means understanding the meanings of the verses of the Holy Qur'an in the most accurate way possible with the help of Arabic language and literature, rhetoric, the religion, culture, and literature of the pre-Islamic period, and knowledge of the sirah and nuzul periods, and explaining them in the most beautiful way. To do this, one must refer to reliable sources of information. Reliable information includes revelation, the report of the Prophet (authentic hadith), authentic historical information, reason, and established scientific data. To use this information appropriately, auxiliary sciences such as the principles of exegesis, Quranic sciences, the principles of hadith, the principles of jurisprudence, logic, and the history of religions are necessary.
The Department of Qur'anic Exegesis examines the history of exegesis from its inception to the present day, exegetes, and exegetical methods, as well as classical (metaphorical) and modern (semantic, hermeneutic) aspects of the methodology of exegesis. It also aims to research all topics related to the Quran. In this context, it also covers exegesis research conducted in Islamic countries and the West. The nature of divine revelation and the extent to which it is accurately conveyed to humanity in exegesis are also among the fundamental objectives of exegesis. The most important feature of exegesis is its holistic approach to the Quran, rather than an atomistic one. This feature provides significant protection against the political and ideological exploitation of verses.
